[ top of page ]Can I narrow my search from the results page?
There are two ways in which Link Vault helps you narrow your search results.
Link Vault displays common search terms that are associated with your query based on previous users' queries. Click on a search term to narrow your search.
If Link Vault finds more than one page of results for your query, you can find the "Search within your results" link next to the search box at the bottom of your results page.
The linked text will take you to Link Vault's "Search within your results" form. There you can enter additional terms that Link Vault will search for within your set of results.
[ top of page ]Why do News headlines sometimes appear in my results?
Link Vault automatically integrates news results when there is a news story relating to your search term(s).
Tip: If you don't want to see News headlines in your web search results, customize your settings to show zero headlines.
[ top of page ]How do I interpret the results?
Each result is listed with the title of the page, a text excerpt that describes the page, and the URL of the page. By clicking on the title, your browser will be re-directed to the web site.
Link Vault will only list one page from each site. To get more hits from a specific site, you can click on the "more hits from:" link. Link Vault will then perform a new search with the same query, but only within the current site.
Tip: You can override this default behavior by customizing your settings.
[ top of page ]How do I navigate the results?
By default, Link Vault lists ten results on each page. This can be changed using the customize feature. You can navigate through multiple pages of results using the Navigation links at the bottom of each page, or use "<< Prev" and "Next >>" links to browse through the results one page at a time.
[ top of page ]Can I try my search term in other search types?
By default Link Vault searches several types of web media. Link Vault organizes the web pages by type. The results are sorted into five main sections: Web, News, Pictures, Video and Audio files.
You can navigate through these sections by using the tabbed links above the search box. The name of the section you are currently searching will display on a blue tab with a bold black label. You can easily run your search in other sections by clicking the respective tab.
[ top of page ]Can I run a new search from the Results Page?
By using the search box at the top or bottom of the results page you can perform a new search. The search boxes on the results page are used in the same way as from the front page described in the Basic Search section.
[ top of page ]Why do "Sponsored Search Listings" sometimes appear in my web pages search results?
This part of the result page displays sponsored results that are related to your search.
[ top of page ]Is there a way to filter out offensive content from my searches?
By default, Link Vault filters out potentially offensive content from the Web, Pictures and Video result pages. The current filter setting is indicated in the upper-right hand corner of these result pages.
You can change this setting at any time by clicking "On" or "Off". Keep in mind that you can also manage this setting in customize preferences.
In the default case, the Offensive Content Filter is "On" as indicated by the bold type:
